Financial Analyst in Samsung in Spring 2020

I am Po-Chih (James) Chen, a student at the University of Texas at Dallas majoring in accounting and business analytics.

I worked as a financial analyst at Samsung Electronics in the spring of 2020. It was a great journey because I have not only fulfilled the knowledge from accounting and business analytics lectures but also understood the operation of Samsung.

Since Samsung is a big company and there is very complicated process of sales order, purchase order, billing, transportation, warehousing, claims, and insurance and return the issue to deal with. Therefore, it is a good chance to understand the operation of one big industry.

As an accounting student, the most important practice is to work and gather experience. Thanks to my supervisor Zully and my Manager Maria. Zully taught me how to audit the invoice by Excel Vlookup and the logic. In addition, Maria verified our proposal and kindly told our insufficiency.

Samsung uses SAP for its ERP system. All the data imported and exported from SAP. I have to import one data to the SAP system to make sure those data are high priority. Then I have to use the data to audit. I decreased 15% of processing and analyzing time by using excel Vlookup and pivot table. I can also use the auditing experience to verify the invoice are reasonable or not. Since I was a government auditor for three and a half years in Taiwan, it was not a problem for me. I really enjoyed the process.

Samsung is a great company because the circumstance here is really flexible. Once the employees have done their duty, then they can leave on time. There is no weird rule here and everyone enjoys the assignment. The benefit in Samsung is great as well. We have unlimited coffee, tea, and chocolate.

I really appreciated that Samsung gave me an opportunity to work in the spring of 2020!
