Story

My internship with Copart had a positive effect on my career growth in a number of ways. I worked as a Database Analyst Intern during Spring 2019. I worked with the Database Services Team to assist with data acquisition, data pre-processing, data transformation, business requirement analysis and database maintenance. I also got the opportunity to work on an Automation project where the goal was to create a Restful API that helps generalize and automate database changes. Some of the Technologies I used included Python scripting, SQL (MariaDB), Pentaho and Tableau.

Some of the things I learnt while working at Copart and would like to share:

Work Ownership: This is a very important fundamental for a successful career growth. At Copart, all the team members take the ownership of at least one of the projects. They would not just be the 'Point of contact' for their respective projects but also make sure every single requirement for the project is met and that the problem statement is solved optimally.

Working together yields better: Whether it be an issue or an idea to explore, employees at Copart work together. The most important principle to contribute to an organization effectively is : ‘We all work towards one goal’.

Grow with the company: In the process of contributing to the company, it is also important to grow with the company. Copart encourages its employees to learn as they work, ask questions, allocate time for research and to know where they are going.

Challenging the norm: It is not just important to stay on Track, but also to race! Here we did not stop at finding solutions to our problems. We reached for optimal. Automation, Innovation, generalizing problems are just a few to mention.

Importance of Knowledge sharing: Learning from peers is a very important skill and so is Knowledge sharing. All the employees at Copart are willing to share their approach to the problems, ideas and the domain expertise that will help their fellow team members grow.

It was indeed a great experience working with a company that is fast-paced, growing exponentially, filled with ideas and fun to work with as well.
